Choppy tape humbled breakouts as only the patient got paid

September 14 to September 18, 2026

This week produced plenty of scanner activity but limited confirmation. We logged 448 setups, yet only 97 resolved as breakouts, keeping the breakout rate at 21.7% while 166 failed and 176 remained unresolved. For context, you can revisit the September 7-11 weekly recap.

Activity stayed high, follow-through stayed selective

The tape generated a broad set of actionable levels, but conversion remained uneven. That combination usually points to a market willing to probe breakout territory without consistently rewarding late or lower quality participation.

In practical terms, this was a week for patience and selectivity rather than volume. Setup density was healthy, but clean expansion beyond the trigger was scarce enough that traders needed to stay close to level, close to grade, and disciplined on confirmation.

Plenty of setups, modest conversion, thin top-tier quality

The scanner stayed busy, but quality was concentrated in the middle of the distribution. A and A+/A++ names were limited, which helps explain why breakout participation was present but not especially efficient. If you want to track current setup grades and breakout levels in real time, see live setups in the scanner.

Profit-taking depth was also limited. Only 10 setups reached full TP3 runner status, while 3 reached TP2 and 13 tagged TP1. The grade mix reinforces the same message: 217 A- names dominated the board, but only 17 A setups and 6 A+ setups made it through, so traders were often choosing from decent rather than exceptional inventory.

No executions is a signal, not a failure

WEX finished the week with 0 trades, 0 wins, and +0.00R. XCEL also finished with 0 trades, 0 wins, and +0.00R. When both systems stand down in a week with 448 setups, it usually means the market generated motion without producing enough qualified alignment to justify risk. You can watch the bots trade live in the Edge Lab when conditions improve.

What did not work was broad participation based on scanner volume alone. What likely worked, at least from a process standpoint, was restraint. A 21.7% breakout rate with 166 failures does not reward forcing entries, and the bots correctly avoided that trap by waiting for cleaner signals that never fully arrived.

No standout trades, which says more about the tape than the systems

There were no best trades and no worst trades logged this week. That usually happens when participation criteria remain tight and the market does not deliver enough clean follow-through to separate obvious winners from obvious mistakes.

The useful read-through is that execution quality stayed conservative. In a noisy environment, avoiding low-conviction trades can be a better outcome than manufacturing action for the sake of a trade list.

No missed-pattern cluster appeared, but unresolved setups deserve attention

There was no missed trade pattern data this week, so there is no statistical blind spot to isolate yet. Still, the unresolved count of 176 is worth monitoring because it suggests a large share of setups hovered near decision points without producing enough extension or failure to clarify edge.

Pattern Missed Trades R Left on Table
No qualifying pattern data 0 +0R
No qualifying pattern data 0 +0R

The filter question for next week is whether some of these unresolved names are simply early and need more time, or whether the scanner is surfacing too many near-level names without enough participation behind them. That is where ongoing review of grade, pressure, and distance to trigger matters most. For current levels and grades, see live setups in the scanner.

A balanced list with slight emphasis on high-quality, near-level names

Monday's watchlist is mixed across both directions, with one A name and one A+ name joining a broader set of A- candidates. The common thread is proximity. Several names are sitting less than 0.50% from trigger, which matters in a market where distance control is more reliable than anticipation. For setup grades and breakout levels, see live setups in the scanner.
