SPY rises 0.32% as 28 of 62 setups fail; UNH is the pick

The UnxEdge breakout scanner only found 62 setups today, and that smaller menu mattered more than the index closes because clean wedge pattern breakouts were scarce and most of them failed. The tape still offered a few tradeable pockets, but this was not broad participation, and the wedge breakout names that worked had to fight through a split market with SPY green, QQQ red, and semis still lagging.

That divergence tracks the day’s macro backdrop. Earnings kept driving single-name action, with STX rallying on strong margins and cash flow while a string of mixed real estate and industrial reports reinforced the idea that the market is rewarding operational strength and punishing anything soft on guidance or demand. With the FOMC rate decision due tomorrow at 2:00 ET, traders were selective, not aggressive, and that usually compresses breakout quality outside of isolated pockets.

Sector rotation tells the same story. Gold and metals are rotating in week over week while semis remain weak, which is not the backdrop for chasing growth beta blindly. Tradeable implication: if yields or Fed tone lean hawkish tomorrow, duration-sensitive names and bond proxies like TLT and IEF stay under pressure, and the market likely keeps favoring harder-asset and defensive rotation over crowded tech leadership. For context, here’s yesterday's debrief.

A green SPY hid a weak breakout tape

Index action looked fine on the surface, but scanner internals were poor. Only 9 of 62 setups broke out, while 28 failed outright. That is not a healthy participation rate. Materials and housing kept acting better than the index, while semis remained a drag. Gold also flipped from laggard last week to ROTATING IN this week.

Accountability matters more than narrative. The setup did not work, and biotech was already underperforming SPY on the 5-day view, but today’s stop shows the real issue: weak tapes can still produce sharp countertrend squeezes that invalidate a clean idea fast.

No swing pick made the cut

Status
No Arxe swing pick generated today

The system flagged UNH as the strongest relative candidate on raw backtest quality, with a 78.57% win rate and 3.67 profit factor across 14 trades, and the bearish setup fit the weak QQQ backdrop. But no official swing conversion was generated, which is the right call when the broader breakout environment is this uneven.

That restraint matters. In a tape with 9 breakouts and 28 failures, forcing a swing just because one name screens well is how edge gets diluted. For live grades and breakout levels, see live setups in the scanner.

The cost of staying sidelined was real, but not evenly distributed

No breakout trades were taken, and 7 valid breakouts were missed for a combined +9.53R. That headline number looks worse than the actual lesson. One TP3 runner did the heavy lifting, while several others were marginal moves that barely cleared.

The honest read: missing XLB hurts because that was a full runner and aligned with visible strength in materials. Missing the tiny follow-through names does not. Low RVOL winners like LLY and KRE are exactly the kind of moves that make filter calibration tricky in a cautious pre-Fed tape.

Today’s filter insight: loosen nothing broadly, but materials strength and selective defensive bull breakouts deserve more respect when semis are weak and the index is masking narrow leadership.

Too many failures for anyone to call this a clean tape

Notable breakouts included BLK bull A-, BX bull B+, KRE bull B, LLY bull B, LYFT bull B, and OKTA bear A-. The key issue is that these winners were isolated rather than broad-based, which makes execution far harder than the raw ticker list suggests.

A 14.5% breakout rate says the tape was selective at best and hostile at worst, especially for anyone trying to trade breadth instead of theme.

Specific levels matter more than opinions into the Fed
