SPY rises 0.53% as 29 of 110 setups break out; GDX is the lone pick

The UnxEdge breakout scanner tracked 110 wedge pattern setups today, and the tape actually rewarded the clean ones. With 29 breakouts against 26 failures and yesterday's debrief still fresh after a stopped-out JD long, Friday was a reminder that wedge breakout quality matters more than broad index direction when leadership rotates this fast.

The macro driver was straightforward enough: July payrolls hit before the open, and the market spent the session digesting what that means for rate expectations rather than reacting to scattered single-name headlines. A green close in SPY, with stronger upside in QQQ and IWM, tells you risk appetite was intact, but the real money moved into hard-asset and growth pockets where the scanner kept surfacing names with actual pressure behind them.

That rotation was the story underneath the indices. Gold, metals, and semis all flipped from laggards last week to leaders this week, while energy and retail rotated out hard. The tradeable implication was obvious by midday: if you were still forcing stale consumer or oil exposure instead of following strength into GDX, SLV, and quality growth breakouts, you were trading the wrong market.

The scanner skewed bullish all day, 77 long setups versus 33 shorts, and that matched the index action. More importantly, quality held up: 57 A- setups and only one expired signal is a decent environment for active traders, especially when leadership is concentrated instead of random. JD long got cut, no excuses

JD BULL STOPPED
Entry zone: $33.19 to $33.33
Stop: $33.15
TP1: $33.38 | TP2: $33.50
Result: -2.64R

This is the accountability section, so here it is plainly: yesterday's JD swing idea failed. Tight setups can still be right on structure and wrong on timing, but the stop was the stop and the market never gave it room to work.

No official swing pick, but the scanner's edge sat in precious metals

Verdict: trade_it

GDX stood out because the historical edge was elite: 94.44% win rate, 16.95 profit factor, 18-trade sample, pressure reading of 78, and only three bars into the setup. That is the kind of profile you take seriously when gold is ROTATING IN and the market is looking for alternatives to crowded consumer and energy exposure.

The caveat is procedural: no official Arxe swing pick was generated today, so this stays in the category of strongest discretionary scanner read rather than a published swing call. Still, if you wanted one chart that matched both sector rotation and backtest quality, this was it. For current grades and levels, see live setups in the scanner.

The cost of standing down was 22.57R

No spin here. With the systems paused, 11 breakouts were left on the table for a combined +22.57R. Two of them were full TP3 runners, which is exactly what strong tapes do: they make inactivity feel expensive.

A- BULL | +6.16R | TP3 | RVOL 1.0x | Day +8.68%
A- BULL | +6.16R | TP3 | RVOL 0.73x | Day +3.70%
A- BULL | +2.56R | TP2 | RVOL 0.64x | Day +6.09%
A- BULL | +2.39R | TP2 | RVOL 1.0x | Day +9.91%
A- BULL | +2.30R | TP2 | RVOL 1.0x | Day +7.01%
B+ BULL | +1.69R | TP1 | RVOL 1.0x | Day +11.33%
A- BULL | +1.31R | TP1 | RVOL 1.0x | Day +8.12%
A- BULL | +0.87R | Minor | RVOL 1.0x | Day +1.79%

The honest read is that this was not a filter failure in the usual sense because there was no live deployment. But the missed-trade list still says something useful: low-to-average RVOL did not prevent follow-through, and sector alignment mattered more than headline volume spikes. Gold and metals were the cleanest examples.

Calibration insight: on rotation days, the better filter is sector leadership plus pressure stability, not an arbitrary demand for elevated RVOL.

Breakout Rate

Just over half of triggered setups worked, which is solid but not forgiving. This was not a spray-and-pray session. If you chased mediocre names, you probably got chopped. If you stayed inside the better grades and the right sectors, the winners had room.

Notable breakouts included BA BULL B, BLK BULL A-, BMY BULL A-, CEG BULL B, CMG BEAR B+, and DOCU BULL A-. That list is mixed enough to confirm the tape was selective, but bullish enough to keep rewarding clean long setups.

A 52.7% breakout rate says the tape was good enough to pay disciplined entries, but nowhere near strong enough to forgive sloppy selection.

The levels that actually matter next

These are the unresolved A- names still coiling. They are not trade ideas without triggers. They become actionable only if price confirms. For live grades and updated levels, see live setups in the scanner.
