SPY drops 1.79% as 40 of 83 setups fail; BROS is the pick

The UnxEdge breakout scanner tracked 83 setups today, and the message was simple: this was a risk-off tape where the wedge pattern breakouts worth respecting were mostly on the short side. With just 24 breakouts against 40 failures, the scanner saw a market that punished weak longs and rewarded only selective downside continuation.

The real catalyst was the 2:00 p.m. ET FOMC rate decision. Even without a fresh upside surprise from macro data, traders used the Fed event to de-risk growth, and that showed up immediately in the heavier hit to QQQ versus SPY. When Nasdaq takes the bigger punch and semis are already rotating out week-over-week, you stop pretending this is broad market weakness and call it what it is: duration and high-beta getting sold first.

Under the surface, earnings headlines reinforced the rotation. BOOT raised full-year guidance but gave softer near-term sales and EPS views, a reminder that good companies are still getting scrutinized on forward demand. Meanwhile, industrial guidance from Hexcel supported pockets of old-economy resilience, which fits the ongoing bid in materials and housing versus the collapse in semis. Materials rotating in while semis rotate out is not random. It is the market paying less for growth dreams and more for tangible cash flow. For context, revisit yesterday's debrief.

Fed day hit growth harder than everything else

Index damage was broad, but the relative weakness in tech mattered most. The scanner also saw a clean split in supply-demand pressure, with 41 bull setups and 42 bear setups, but the market resolved that balance decisively in favor of sellers.

One rotation worth noting: semis flipped from outperforming SPY last week to rotating out hard this week, while materials flipped the other way and rotated in.

XBI bear got stopped, no excuses

XBI BEAR STOPPED
Entry zone: $151.32 to $151.92
Stop: $152.49
TP1: $150.75 | TP2: $149.88
Result: -1.24R

The setup failed, plain and simple. That does not invalidate the process, but it does reinforce the current tape condition: even decent bearish ideas need cleaner timing because event-driven reversals are still sharp around macro catalysts.

BROS got the nod because the stats and tape agreed

BROS BEAR

Verdict: trade_it

Why this one: BROS carried the best statistical profile of the candidates with an 80.0% win rate, 3.99 profit factor, and pressure reading of 70. More importantly, it matched the day’s macro context. With SPY in a bearish trend and QQQ taking the bigger hit, forcing a long like BAC made less sense than leaning into downside continuation.

What supports it: On Fed day, bearish continuation setups in stocks with already weakening relative posture tend to outperform because buyers step back and liquidity thins fast on failed bounces. That is exactly the environment where the scanner’s better A- and B+ bearish wedge breakouts matter most. For active levels and grading context, see live setups in the scanner.

Where the volume was today

TTWO BULL B+ printed 5.4x RVOL with pressure at 78, and it still failed.

That is the kind of stat that catches traders leaning the wrong way. Big relative volume usually gets attention, but volume without follow-through is not strength, it is conflict. There was no clean day-percent thrust to confirm institutional sponsorship, and on a Fed-driven risk-off session that matters. High RVOL on a failed bull setup usually means news or event interest met immediate supply. Today, that was a warning, not an invitation.

Nothing executed while the system stays in refinement mode

The bots missed breakouts, but there was no real money left on the table

Eleven breakouts were missed, and the total opportunity cost rounded to basically nothing. No TP1 hits, no TP2 hits, no TP3 runners. That tells you the filters were not blind to a great trend day. They simply sat out a tape that never produced clean expansion.

GS A- BEAR

+0.64R | Minor | RVOL 1.0x | Day -5.79%

QQQ A- BEAR

+0.57R | Minor | RVOL 0.56x | Day -2.51%

FDX A- BEAR

+0.37R | Minor | RVOL 0.22x | Day 0.14%

MSTR B+ BEAR

+0.34R | Minor | RVOL 0.3x | Day -3.44%

TQQQ A- BEAR

+0.34R | Minor | RVOL 0.73x | Day -7.71%

COIN A- BEAR

+0.21R | Minor | RVOL 1.4x | Day -1.77%

IWM A- BEAR

+0.20R | Minor | RVOL 0.74x | Day -1.74%

TSLA A- BEAR

+0.18R | Minor | RVOL 0.84x | Day -3.71%

The calibration insight today: filters that avoided low-RVOL, low-extension breakouts did their job, because this tape produced motion but very little tradable follow-through.

Too many triggers, not enough payoff

Breakout Rate

Notable breakouts came from AFRM bear A-, APP bear B, AXP bear A-, COIN bear A-, DOCU bull B, and FDX bear A-. The common thread was obvious: shorts had the cleaner path, while isolated longs could trigger but struggled to earn trust.

A sub-30% breakout rate on Fed day tells you the tape was reactive, not directional, and that is a bad environment for chasing first triggers.

The unresolved A- names that still matter

These are the setups worth stalking into Thursday. Levels below are trigger frameworks built from the current coil structure.
